Vineyards
Situated on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, 2 km from the foreshore, with 150 meters elevation. The soils are a rich combination of sandy loam topsoil overlying a friable red-brown clay loam subsoil. The moderately warm summer temperatures and maritime breeze allow perfect ripening conditions in the vineyard. The long sunshine-hour days encourage even ripening of the grapes, while the gentle breeze helps cool the bunches, retaining the beautiful natural acidity.
Vintage
The 2024 growing season saw good rainfall in winter, which set up good ground moisture for spring growth in the vineyard. The summer of 2023/2024 was mild however, so the fruit sat on the vine longer than usual, waiting for ultimate ripeness to be achieved. The vineyard remained in pristine condition so we were able to leave the fruit to ripen over a long period of time.
Winemaking
Picked in March in the early hours of the morning, the coolest time of day, ensuring they are delivered cool and fresh to the winery which naturally helps preservation from oxidation. This Rose is made from our young shiraz vines, which have been in production for only 3 years. The fruit, in its immaturity has lower tannins and a larger crop which make it ideal to make rose style wine from. The fruit was crushed and destemmed into a membrane bag press for gentle pressing, then transferred to a stainless steel tank to cold settle for 10 days before being racked off of grape ‘solids’, warmed, inoculated with a neutral dry wine yeast. Fermentation lasted 10 days.
Tasting Notes
The 2024 Rose is pale, but vibrant pink in colour, with delicious aromas of rose petal, pomegranate and cranberry. The palate is fresh and zingy, with crunchy acidity and lovely bright red fresh fruits. It has a hint of fruit “sweetness”, but with a long dry finish. A perfect aperitif, or lunchtime wine.
