Vineyards
Situated on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, 2 km from the foreshore, with 150 meters elevation. The soils are a rich combination of sandy loam topsoil overlying a friable red-brown clay loam subsoil. The moderately warm summer temperatures and maritime breeze allow perfect ripening conditions in the vineyard. The long sunshine-hour days encourage even ripening of the grapes, while the gentle breeze helps cool the bunches, retaining the beautiful natural acidity.
Vintage
The 2025 growing season yielded lower than average spring and summer rainfall across all of South Australia. This resulted in generally lower yields and a much earlier start to vintage than normal. The shiraz that was picked for this Rose was harvested on 19th February 2025. The fruit has achieved optimal ripeness for this style of wine, having great intensity ion colour and flavour but without sugar, alcohol and tannin levels climbing too high.
Winemaking
The fruit was picked in the very early hours of the morning, while the fruit is still very cold from overnight low ambient temperatures, ensuring they are delivered cool and fresh to the winery which naturally helps preservation from oxidation.
This Rose is made from our young shiraz vines. The fruit was crushed and destemmed into a membrane bag press, then held for 6 hours to pick up the perfect amount of flavour and colour from the grape skins. The grapes were then gently pressed into stainless steel tanks for cold settling.
The juice was cold settled for 12 days before being racked off of grape ‘solids’, warmed, inoculated with a neutral dry wine yeast and fermentation commenced. A long and cool alcohol fermentation lasted 14 days. The wine was once again settled, stabilised, clarified and filtered before being bottled in early May 2025
Tasting Notes
The 2025 Rose is pale pink with a bright tinge. The aromas are lifted and fresh with blueberry and a hint of floral, rose petal notes. There are hints of strawberry on the palate, with a long zest and dry finish.
