Major Sustainability Projects and Emissions Reduction Initiatives
We have launched a series of impactful initiatives designed to reduce our emissions, conserve energy, and optimise resources. Here are the key projects we’ve undertaken to ensure Teakle Wines remains at the forefront of sustainability in our region:
-
Carbon Footprint Assessment & Action Plan
In collaboration with 2XE Australia, we completed a detailed carbon footprint assessment, covering all aspects of our vineyard, hospitality, and logistics operations. This assessment has enabled us to create a targeted action plan to reduce emissions across the business. -
Solar Energy Expansion
We have significantly invested in a 100kW solar PV system, which now supplies 47% of our electricity needs. We are scoping an expansion as well as investment in battery storage as part of our ongoing commitment to increase our use of renewable energy and reduce reliance on non-renewable resources. -
Energy Efficiency Upgrades
In addition to our solar initiatives, we have made several energy-saving upgrades across our facilities, and the adoption of energy-efficient LED lighting throughout our operations. -
Water-Saving Irrigation Systems
Partnering with SA Water, we’ve optimized our irrigation systems to ensure water is used efficiently across the vineyard and gardens. These smart irrigation practices reduce water consumption and support the health of our crops. -
Waste Reduction and Recycling Initiatives
A new 3-tier waste management system has been introduced throughout our business. This system improves waste separation and promotes recycling and composting, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. -
Staff Education and Energy Awareness
We have rolled out educational signage across our facilities to encourage staff to switch off unused equipment and adopt more sustainable practices, further supporting our goal of minimizing energy consumption.
Looking Forward
At Teakle Wines, sustainability isn’t just about meeting today’s challenges, it’s about laying the groundwork for a brighter, greener future. We are continually evaluating new technologies and practices to reduce our impact and ensure our winery remains a model of environmental stewardship. We are committed to making responsible choices that benefit the environment, our community, and future generations.
By leading the way in sustainable practices, we hope to inspire others to follow suit, ensuring that sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do, today and in the future.
